Yearsley, David Dutton (1808-1849), born at Thornbury, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Married Mary Ann Hoopes, 1830. Converted to Mormonism in 1841. Located at Nauvoo, Illinois. During the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo he was appointed bishop of the 12th ward at Winter Quarters, Douglas County, Nebraska in 1846. In 1848 he was elected county commissioner of Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Died at Winter Quarters. [PJSv2]

Young, Brigham (1801-1877), carpenter, painter, glazier. Born at Whitingham, Windham County, Vermont. Married Miriam Works, 1824. Living in Mendon, New York when he joined the Latter-day Saints in 1832. Moved to Kirtland, Ohio, 1832. With Zion’s Camp, 1834. His Kirtland years were divided between missionary work and labor on the temple. He succeeded Thomas Marsh as president of the Quorum of Twelve. Member of the Quorum of Twelve, 1835-47; Church President, 1848-77. Directed Mormon evacuation from Missouri, 1838-39. Mission to England, 1839-41. Elected to Nauvoo city council, 1841. Directed Mormon migration from Nauvoo to Utah, 1846-48. Governor of Utah Territory, 1850; Superintendent of Indian Affairs, 1851-57. Young, Brigham (1801-77), was born on June 1, 1801, in Whitingham, Vermont, to John Young and Abigail (Nabby) Howe. Married Miriam Works on Oct. 8, 1824, and they had two children. After her death, he married Mary Ann Angel on Feb. 18, 1834, and they had six children. Was baptized and was ordained an elder on Apr. 14, 1832, by Eleazer Miller after two years of studying Mormonism. Marched with Zion’s Camp in 1834. Served a mission to Canada in 1832 and in 1835, missions to the eastern states in 1835-37, and missions to England in 1839-41. Became an apostle on Feb. 14, 1835. Attended the Hebrew School, 1835-36. Became the second prophet and President of the Church on Dec. 5, 1847. Led the Saints to Utah. Died on Aug. 29, 1877, in Salt Lake City. [McLellin]

Moved to Mendon, New York, 1829. First saw Book of Mormon in spring of 1830. Baptized 14 April 1832 by Eleazer Miller. Ordained elder 14 April 1832. Wife, Miriam, died 8 September 1832. Traveled to Kirtland to see Joseph Smith October-November 1832. Mission to Upper Canada December 1832. Returned to Mendon, New York, February 1833. Second mission to Upper Canada April-August 1833. Moved to Kirtland September 1833. Married Mary Ann Angell 18 February 1834. Six children: Joseph A., Brigham, Mary Ann, Alice, Luna, and John W. Member of Zion’s Camp 1834. Worked on Kirtland Temple. Baptized 6 April 1832 by Daniel Bowen in Columbia, Pennsylvania. Ordained elder April 1832 by Ezra Landon. Preached in New York in spring of 1832. Mission to Earnestown-Loughborough, Upper Canada, in summer of 1832. Traveled to Kirtland, Ohio, November 1832. Second mission to Earnestown-Loughborough in winter of 1832-33. Married Jane Adeline Bicknell 18 February 1834 in Kirtland. Eleven children: Jane A., Joseph, Seymour B., Marcus De LaGrande, John Calvin, Mary L., Vilate, Chloe, Rhoda, Henriette, and Brigham. Member of Zion’s Camp 1834. Ordained seventy 28 February 1835. Ordained President of First Quorum of Seventy 1 March 1835. Served in this position 1835-81. Mission to New York and Massachusetts with Burr Riggs 1835. Participated in dedication of Kirtland Temple 1836. Charter member of and owned stock in Kirtland Safety Society. Joined the Church in April 1832 and was en route to Jackson County, Missouri, in 1833 when he received news of the driving of the Saints from that place. Returned to Kirtland, Ohio and worked in the printing office. Arrived in Utah with the Mormon pioneer company of 1847. Instrumental in the return of Oliver Cowdery to the Church, 1848. Missionary in England and Scotland. Bishop of Salt Lake City 2nd Ward, 1864-71. Died in Salt Lake City. [PJSv2]

Young, Richard Montgomery (1796-1853), born in Kentucky. Studied law and moved to Illinois, where he was admitted to the bar in 1817. Served in the second general assembly of Illinois, 1820-22, as a representative from Union County. Circuit judge, 1825-27, 1829-37. U.S. senator, 1837-43, when he was commissioned justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. Resigned from the court in 1847 to become commissioner of the General Land Office at Washington, D.C. Died in an insane asylum at Washington, D.C. [PJSv2]
